Our strategic planning meeting wrapped up on Sunday with action steps listed and owners identified. I have several more things added to my "to do" list that I'm excited about. Currently NCSPOD elections are taking place....I've received several signed nomination forms and look forward to receiving a few more before the February 1st deadline.
A 2012 conference city has been selected and we'll be making that announcement, to all members, very soon. In the coming months I'll be working with another board member to redesign our newsletter. I'm so excited to learn a new software program and improve upon what we are currently doing. Moving NCSPOD from great to greater is a challenge that I welcome and embrace.
As my learning continues I'll continue to include all of you.
May today be filled with excellence in all you do!

It's been a wonderful day of learning......I don't even know where to begin!
The trip to Disney University was filled with amazing facts, fun and learning. Walt Disney, himself, would be impressed with the programs and processes that are in place at the largest US employer. It's hard to imagine Mr. Disney went bankrupt several times before he made it rich!
Our visit started with a tour of "Central Operations" where all the mechanical, industrial and maintenance work is done. Having spent 4 years in the Industrial Technologies department at Kirkwood I really connected and had a depth of appreciation for the work and the facilities. Although photos weren't allowed - the things we saw are forever imprinted in my mind. We then had the opportunity to visit with the Disney SafeD program staff members followed by a visit with the learning and development consultant. We had lots of opportunity to ask questions and were grateful for that! I have several ideas and thoughts about what we can consider at Kirkwood. We ended our time at Disney with a trivia quiz. I thought you'd enjoy the opportunity to see how well you know Disney too! Test your knowledge - answers are below!!!
DISNEY TRIVIA QUIZ
1) How many employees work at Disney?
2) After going bankrupt several times which movie was the "make or break" film that turned the corner for Walt Disney?
3) There are 4 Disney Parks in Orlando. Which park opened first? What year did it open?
4) Disney owns ESPN. What does ESPN stand for?
5) How many Disney buses are there at Disney World?
This evening the NCSPOD Board of Directors started our strategic planning meeting with a "I Am Form" activity. It was GREAT! I will definitely be bringing this back to Kirkwood! I will have to get up early to ensure I get my work out in and eat breakfast before we resume at 8:30 tomorrow morning.
Learning & Loving Life!
3) Magic Kingdom - 1970
4) Entertaining Sports Producing Network
5) 340 - and they are ALL washed and cleaned each night!!

It's mighty chilly back home this morning. I was checking in at http://www.kcrg.com/ and discovered those in Eastern Iowa are waking up to temperatures in the mid 20's. Good news is it will warm up into the 50's there today with no rain. It will be in the 50's in Vancouver today too. Although I don't know how much sunshine we'll have. It does seem a bit unique that it remains dark here after 7:00 a.m. The daylight is less here. That doesn't cause any delay in everyone waking up and embracing the learning each morning.
Our NCSPOD keynoter, Angaangaq "Uncle" Angaangap was very inspiring. Uncle was raised in Greenland and known to have a powerful - spiritual impact on those he meets/touches/connects with. Uncle spoke about our role in making a difference with all we encounter on earth: people, animals, the earth. The most inspiring words to me were the words his mother spoke to him; "You must melt the ice in your heart before you can gain knowledge and change." Wow....how powerful....and how true! He shared his voice with us in the most powerful and moving way. He shared a spiritual moment with my dear friend and VP of the Eastern Region, Santo Rizzo. Santo is still feeling the "power" of the experience. You may learn more at http://www.icewisdom.com/.

Green - Creative
Yellow - Understanding
Red - Decision-Making
White - Personal Spirit
The green, yellow and red (stop light) are mindsets that contain specific thinking strategies. The white is your catalyst for personal empowerment, action and impact.
Overall, I ranked the highest in white. Within the stoplight I ranked the highest in red....and for those who know me well.....that shouldn't surprise you! :)
In the afternoon I attended Bob's session "Smarter Meetings: The Smarter Way to Meet." This was all about using the stop light concept in meetings.
I was fortunate to win 2 of Bob's books, "Smart for Life: Powerful Techniques for Achieving Personal Success and High Performance." and "Smarter Meetings." The publisher is Fearless Diamond Press.
Last evening was the always popular GIFTS - Great Ideas for Training Staff. I did share the new History & Culture of the Community College course developed at Kirkwood. Folks were excited and impressed. There were a total of 21 GIFTS. We followed that up with something new this year - NIFTS - Need Ideas for Training Staff. This time is one of my favorite at the conference because our members share opening and freely. You can obtain lots of great tools, templates and techniques that you may take back to your college and implement.
Tonight is a Dinner Cruise around the Harbor. We're hoping the weather cooperates.
Enjoy today - it's a gift!
